What's wrong with the Online Coaching Industry is Broken (And How You Can Fix It)

Aug 25, 2022

You wouldn't believe it I've never had the desire to train coaches in how to coach. In the past seven years, my experience has allowed me to become more involved in the business and am fairly proficient with what I do. So naturally, other coaches have also wanted to ask me questions for a bit.

This is when I began being more attentive to what was happening within this field. As I studied it, the more I saw individuals doing things I thought they shouldn't do because they weren't going to work. If you've been in the coaching industry for several years, you've probably figured out that I'm talking aboutThe coaching field is rife with untrue advice, broken promises, and some outright scams.

And, even more troublingly There are people who are teaching subjects that they don't have a enthusiasm for or expertise in.

In some ways I'd go so in saying that the coaching industry is fundamentally broken .

There is a benefit. There is an opportunity to become an effective and helpful online coach. You just need to understand the risks you're taking and ensure that you're doing it for the right reasons. Let me explain...

There's a "pyramid scheme" in online coaching

There are ads every day on sites like YouTube as well as Instagram, now. When you reach an important milestone in your coaching business or run into difficulties, these ads begin to appear as tiny, nagging insects in the social media pages. "Are you a coach who's finding it difficult to find clients? Here -- all you'll need to do is adhere to my proven system !"

I used to be at a distance and become angry at these. But now, I'm able to accept these as the price we pay for being part of an unregulated industry. Since the sector isn't regulated There isn't a consensus on what it takes to achieve success. It's the reason behind breaking the system and increasingly more and more difficult for qualified, good individuals to be successful.

There's no evidence of this in any other industry. There's no one out there selling a course on how to become a lawyer within 30 days. Or how to get through medical school without having to take any pesky tests. It would be absurd isn't it? There's an accepted way to be a lawyer, a doctor or a teach or therapist, or any of a number of regulated professions. You can't take any shortcuts. You won't find advertisements that claim to offer: "Seven Easy Steps to Start Your First Patient On the Operating Table for Brain Surgeons(tm)."

The coaching profession is full of these types of promising promises, based on people's desperate needs. It's mostly about what coaches can learn about thisor teach coaches that. Since the most important customer can be... wait for it... the coach. They are the ones buying how to be successful, and likely taking a significant amount of revenue for the coaching industry.

Don't get me off-base -- this is acceptable if you're a enthusiasm for marketing and are proficient in teaching subjects that coaches want. If that's what you're passionate about, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with giving only to people in your particular area of expertise.

Most people aren't very good or enthusiastic about it. It's not what they really desire to share with othershowever, they believe that's all they're able to do.

Then what happens? Coaching professionals alter their character just to chase success. While we leave aside the debate about morality about whether this is correct or not, this still creates problems. Since the only thing that matters in order to be successful according to me, is the alignment.

Beware of the trap of teaching other coaches

When I say alignment, I am referring to the fact that it is important to determine what the area of coaching is aligned to your lessons acquired in your experience. Each of us as a human being is a student of a few important lessons from our upbringing. These are the lessons that we have learned to conquer the obstacles in our lives. It could be financial lesson, career lessons, or even relationships lessons.

These life lessons can be valuable for anyone who is interested which means that they'll pay to hear your perspective and what you learned. What that means in terms of business is that your life lessons can be a valuable product.

Now, the question is, how can create a company that incorporates all of your unique skill sets and potential strengths and weaknesses, but doesn't make you do activities you'd rather not to do? Since you do not want to lose focus from your life's lessons, and fall into the trap of just teaching others the best way to become a coach.

Think about the situation this way: if you instruct others based on your own life experiences, that's the kind of thing that clients value. If you only teach others the best ways to be a coach, that's your knowledge that people find useful.

If that's true, then you're "secret ingredient" doesn't matter. It means your life lessons don't matter. That means that you as a person don't matter and it's interchangeable. You've been reduced to a commodity. The only thing that does matter is people buying this data. And the reason that's so critical for us to understand is that if you can't succeed with an approach that doesn't matter, then you cannot feel fulfilled, happy and feel any satisfaction from your work since you're not involved in the process.

Start by recognizing the value you hold. The lessons you have learned from your life are valuable. You didn't learn this from a coach or program It's your own knowledge and understanding of reality.

What is the reason to coach from a place of authenticity

Even if you believe that the "guaranteed single-size-fits-all" method works for you, it's still based upon inauthenticity. This is one of the primary reasons that a large number of people aren't keen to make sales, or are afraid to do so. It's the reason that a lot of those selling techniques feel uncomfortable. (Which is an academic term, by the way.) It's not because of the tactics themselves, it's because you're disconnected from your true self. The belief at the heart of the matter that you've earned your worth.

Let's take an example. you purchase a sales script to pitch prospective clients. If you do not trust what you're offering somebody, then it's irrelevant the author of the script or if they made one million dollars with the script. It doesn't matter what comes out of your mouth , because your body is telling another narrative. People are aware of the fact that they're selling something which you've never bought!

That's why authenticity is so important in selling the work that you are doing. There is a way to find the alignment that we've discussed, and truly find your voice within the sales pitch. If you're using the exact same sales strategy it will be much more effective as you're coming from a position of honesty.

The issue is not what words come from our mouths. If I'm confident about my product due to the transformative advantages of this product consequently, you are able to provide me with any sales script. My conviction will convince you and my support on behalf of you is bound to make you believe.

The energy is what people generally buy -- not the product. Your certainty is not your sales strategies and marketing channels.

The time has come to turn into the type of online coach you want to be

I am sure that for certain people, this could be an uphill climb. There's a chance that you'll encounter certain fears, doubts and fears. But the main question is: do you possess an ambition to be a positive influence? Do you want to succeed when it comes to applying the lessons you have learned throughout your life? Do you want to assist others with the right mindset? If you do, then you're more likely to find success.

Whatever you do, please don't disrespect yourself by removing the primary ingredient in the equation. Don't simply try to make an amount, but commit to make the world a better place.
