Nov 4, 2022

Prior to his accomplishment in the online world as a six-figure earner, Brian Gordon worked as an Bay Street banker in downtown Toronto.

When working, his colleagues were often asking him to assistance with difficult exams that are in the field of finance including the CFA, CFP and CSC. He started teaching classes after work to help students pass the tests.

It came as a shock to him that this action of kindness helped him discover the passion of his life. " I found out that I loved the teaching profession more than working on the industry," he laughs.

He quit the finance sector and was offered a full-time tenured professor's post at Centennial College, where he taught for fourteen years. In the time he was teaching it was not uncommon for him to be sought out by banks as well as other brokerage firms to conduct classes internally. "I thought, this would make a good business," he says.

The year 1999 was the time that Exam Success was born Through his own education at the college He also taught exam preparation courses and conducted seminars throughout Canada across Toronto, Montreal, Calgary as well as Vancouver. "I began with just six students,"" Gordon continues. "And I started my business entirely on referrals from friends and family. I didn't do any marketing ."

In the end, he chose to drop his work as a teacher at the school to concentrate full-time on his business. As the epidemic erupted and spread, he switched his in-person classes to online ones, due to the internet .

This is how he accomplished the feat.

The guy did not allow any flaws to hold him from his goals.

Gordon realized it was just a matter of time before the course was moved online, as numerous students were also taking part in. This was the catalyst for this change.

In the event that all his class session were cancelled, he rushed to incorporate his teaching materials into the format of an internet-based site. He was blessed to have an enormous library of resources since his early teaching days. Study notes and practice questions, such as learning activities, examples of how to learn, as well as videos of him teaching concepts in real-time in classrooms available. "A mentor once told me that content is key to success,'" he says. "I've consistently put forth the effort to make sure I consistently make the right content ."

At the beginning of the operation, Gordon used the Moodle platform.

"It was an unremarkable platform and I was searching for a long time to find an interface that was simple to use, looked good as well as user-friendly and made it appear as if the user was not on his on his own." the author says. "I realized that this could be achieved by using ."

Initial, his transition to online teaching was not easy. "I was unsure of what I was doing," he says.

The perfectionist in him didn't stop his from pursuing his online business with gusto, though; soon he was able to find his personal online teaching routine and received positive feedback from his students. He has said that his biggest achievement is when he is able to receive feedback from students who say they would not have been able to pass their test without his help. "People have to pay money to attend your classes, therefore you must remain professional and exact," he continues. "But there are a lot of mistakes that you could make throughout the course; students are aware and appreciate that human beings have human nature. ."

The content of his blog was brief, concise, and direct

Gordon describes his courses as one-stop shop where students receive all the necessary information in order to pass their test within the area of finance.

In the process of deciding to develop his curriculums, the first method that he adopted was to get rid of the technical language. The idea was to explain the concepts in simple terms. It is stated that students are of the opinion that how he instructs is a simple format.

Contrary to the other schools he competes with, He doesn't aim to make his students expert; Instead Gordon aims to convey his knowledge in the most succinct, straight and succinct manner feasible. Since students are studying for exams which are anywhere from four to six months off, Gordon believes that the conciseness of his content can aid in the retention of information. "Someone that is preparing to sit for these tests will have to face a lot at them within the same short duration" Gordon states. "My strategy teaches students what they need to accomplish in order to achieve success, then they must obtain the appropriate credentials and then go on. They are able to build up the knowledge they need to continue building on as their career grows. ."

In addition to keeping his content clear and simple, he wants to make it as engaging as possible. The way to do this is by employing a mix of teaching methods and videos. He also provides video tutorials of himself, whiteboard classes, tests, practice questions and packs that contain instructions and reading materials -- all done packed with humor. "People are reporting that they feel they're sitting in the same room that I am in," he says.

His classes have very high rates of completion

When students buy the course, they will have access to everything the instructor can offer all in one place.

Gordon claims that the quality of the completed of the program is very impressive as students in the course are preparing for an examination and have to study every aspect of the syllabus for that purpose. "I'm not presenting the area of soft skills because people often drop off or lose interest," he says.

But, for those individuals who decide to quit his program playing in automation. He will provide them with encouragement messages to can encourage the participants to continue their journey.

The instructor provided a delightful learning experience

Through the years his audience has grown to more than 100 students in each classroom, thanks to referrals from friends and family.

He believes the reason he's received so many referrals is due to the great experience he provides his students.

"You can always expect to obtain information at lower cost or even free of charge," he says. "But the unique way you offer your clients is something you can't find elsewhere. If you provide your students with an enjoyable learning experience, it will lead to your success."

In addition, he prides himself on being accessible to students unlike his competition who don't do. A personal connection between him and his students allows students to feel confidence and comfort during their journey to learning. It also helps to encourage a positive view of his company that leads to increased than just referrals. "Many students inform me that they're overwhelmed, don't have a clue where to begin, and have no one to turn to" the teacher says. "These courses make the students feel an integral part of the class and they have someone who is there to help them throughout the ."

Through his interactions with pupils, Gordon is encouraging them to inquire about questions and keep in touch with one another. So, the content he creates is determined by the pupils' requirements. "If someone is having trouble in a particular area, I'll make videos and make it available to anyone who requires it," he says. "If someone is experiencing the issue, I'm certain that many people are having similar issues. ."

Currently, he doesn't have any Facebook communities that he can connect to his students. As of the moment, they only are able to communicate with him.

The site was accessed via YouTube to redirect organic traffic to his site

Alongside the referrals that fuel the course's business, Gordon also has a YouTube channel that he created in 2020. The channel is currently home to more than 800 users. "My videos are low-tech and simply involve me giving tips to the camera" the creator explains. "I'm an instructor; I'm here for teaching. But it's not the kind of excitement or flashy that individuals ."

He's also created an internet-based sales funnel with ConvertKit. Prospective students are able to connect with his channel on YouTube and watch the video, and are encouraged to sign-up to get a glimpse of one of his classes. "I'm not a very aggressive selling person," the comedian says.

Once they've entered the funnel they're sent an email series which encourage them to buy the course.

     He targeted specifically an audience

His target market is financial professional as well as those trying to grow into financial experts. His pupils are in their late twenties to early forties, and many are employed at banks, mutual funds as well as investment companies and hedge funds.

A majority of his viewers is Canadian Although a smaller percentage of his students are from Dubai, Hong Kong, as well as Norway. It is due to the fact that he provides the latest information on various financial terminology, most of being Canadian.

He described himself as a mid-level cost service

The cost of his courses can range from $69-$800. He currently has about 1500 students. In the past few years, he's had approximately 800 students sign up per year.

In terms of price, he's positioning himself as a middle-priced service. "I'm far from being the least expensive service, as I offer the most personalized services to my students" He says. "But I'm certainly not the most expensive cost provider, nor am I the most expensive. This seems to be my experience ."

He was inspired by his love to teach.

While he now has the company of his own, which is comprised of nine, as he reflects on his path to business, he states that he would've preferred working with other teams prior to. "I did not allow this to occur because I'm a man who is a control freak," he says, shouting. "If I could go back to do it all over again, I'd try to establish my own business along with a set of individuals and expand business starting from there. ."

In addition to connecting to students in a meaningful way and developing engaging, short and concise material, Gordon believes that his accomplishments came from identifying his love to do what he loves and that is teaching.

Actually, he thinks that if people create online courses in order to earn money, that's not the right approach.
