The art of authenticity CreativeMindClass Blog
The process of connecting to your authentic self; the deep nature of who a person is.
Angela Maria Sierra, a Spanish-born artist, portrays true self and emotions she is going through. It is evident in her models with a rich emotional life that are full of compassion to ease and pleasure.
She is better known in the world of art as Riso Chan, who is the portrait artist as well as an art teacher currently living within The Netherlands. The artist is about to begin her artistic journey with videos and her own creative YouTube channel! This was something she's always had wanted to create for a very long period of. With courage and determination, she fought through the awkwardness of speaking to cameras, she made an entertaining video of herself as well as her work and the creative environment in which she lives.
Riso Chan about embracing her true, sensitive self through art:
My work is deeply emotionally charged. My work is based on portraits of the feelings that I feel. My entire life, I have been a sensitive person. From the time I was a kid, it has been something that made me feel uneasy and I attempted to put it down. (...) When you get older and realize that everything is fine and everybody feels different. I decided to use all the emotional energy I carry into my daily life and start painting. I draw on it to stimulate my creativity and to spark fresh ideas. This is astonishing because of what I've been trying to push down for all of my life, all of a sudden I was able to put it on sheet of paper and it seemed like a great feeling of relief. There is finally an area where I am able to make use of this sense, where I can use these emotions pleasures, hurts, and pains and put them on paper. This was a truly amazing experience and led me to a state of gratefulness. It started resonating with a lot of people too. I was opening the door and writing things down on paper I'd never thought of previously. As opposed to trying to become the same as other artists who have already "made it" I was really listening to what I wanted to say and who I am as an individual. I took on something that I did not like about me and realized it is actually my superpower. I'm very happy to be the most sensitive me.
