Welcome to our interview with illustrator designer, artist, and instructor Maia Faddoul. Maia is a first-generation Canadian artist, who operates from her Montreal studio. There she creates bright and colorful illustrations for editorials, packaging, publishing, and more. Her style is high-contrast, bright and vibrant usually with a subtle message of social justice hidden in.
Maia is an avid color enthusiast as well as a bit of a neo-maximalist in her art style. Maia utilizes her work as a vehicle to share her beliefs, speak out against injustices and raise consciousness to causes that mean a lot to her. I see my drawing style as "High Contrast'.
I see my style as high-contrast, colorful and bold and often has a subdued social justice message hidden in the background. I'm a huge fan of color and a bit of a minimalist when it comes to my style of art.

What is the key in creating your illustration?
An important aspect of my art is to create artwork that is reflective of my values and beliefs. I'm not the most outspoken or extroverted person, so I often utilize my work as a means to voice my beliefs, speak out about injustices and spread awareness of causes that matter a significant amount to me.

Digital drawing classes
Maia uses drawing tablets and Procreate to create digital portraits. In her Drawing Expressive Portraits with Procreate course, she covers her experiment-filled process to creates colorful, vibrant and striking portraits.
