Respecting History, Empowering Progression: International Women's Day 2024
Every year on March 8 people gather to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD). It's a time to celebrate the achievements of women and to reflect on their challenges as well as recommit to make sure that gender equality is maintained. When we look back, we realize that it was not something that took place over the course of a single day. It's the culmination of many years of struggle, perseverance and unwavering commitment. It's the day when we commemorate the day by inviting everyone to come along for an educational tour through the past and culture of IWD, a testament to our collective effectiveness. actions.
Start by planting Seeds of Change to a Global Movement
The seeds of IWD started to sprout at the beginning of the 20th century. At this point that women's equality gained off. On the 8th of March in 1857, an entire group of women marched on the streets to demonstrate against low working conditions for textile workers and insufficient legal rights for women within their sectors of the textile industry. They demanded the reduction of work hours, as well as an adequate and decent living wage. Then, a few years later on the 8th day of March, a march of women working with needles was organized in protest against child labor, working conditions in sweatshops, and to demand women to be allowed to vote. In 1910, the eighth day of the month was made an official day to be celebrated to be International Women's Day.
Change is a catalyst
It was a time in which IWD was a powerful force for transformation. IWD was an avenue in which women could voice their thoughts on topics such as the right to vote, fair work conditions, fair pay in addition to the right to receive an education. In 1975, IWD was acknowledged in 1975 when the United Nations officially recognized IWD which affirmed the global importance of IWD.
A Day of Celebration and Action
Presently, IWD is celebrated in different ways, from grand occasions to private celebrations. It's a time to celebrate the women who have left their mark in every field from scientists and musicians to entrepreneurs and activists. However, IWD isn't only about the honoring of women. It's also about the chance to act. The campaign for equality between men and women is close to being completed. It is crucial to ensure equality of opportunities, fight the stigmas and negative stereotypes that affect us, and to support all girls and women.
