concerning pursuing new opportunities and a change in directions for your professional career

Prior to my move to London in 2017 I lived in a small town in Germany and worked for a while as an After Effects animator. Although there weren't any challenges for my creative abilities, my progress were slowed down and I became very unhappy.

Transferring from London and getting to know everyone who is a wonderful animator here was a massive positive boost in my motivation. It was like "Damn that, I'm one of the cool kids . I've better get my gear going."

After attending the Pictoplasma Conference, I decided to get involved in the world of creative character designers. The realization came quickly that my characters work optimally with 3D which I'm learning, which isn't easy, but extremely enjoyable!

My work was observed by the people at Greenhouse Animation, and I'm now represented as a director by them.

The X-Files project as well as the secrets of socks disappearing

One of the very first customers I worked on with my new style is that from the Covered by Lemonade clip.

Lemonade Insurance approached me to design a piece for its ongoing Instagram collaborative with artists. Since the business is a content insurance company and the concept of adorable household objects that are in trouble immediately came to your mind. This is why the X-Files project came to life.

The last winter, I was on lockdown watching all the x-files, thus involving an alien classic abduction seemed like the most logical thing to do. The characters have to be in the same spot during the moment of the end to close the animation loop to actually be taken away. That's how I had an idea to make an explosion of the washer, and the single pink sock move towards the UFO.

As I modelled my UFO and giving my UFO small legs I could see the way everything can become entangled in. The UFO is missing its sock and is working to get it back!

According to me, creating an engaging story can be best done by mixing diverse things that may seem incompatible at first. Making something surprising happen and to give objects that are not animated an identity by putting hilarious faces on them is the best way to have fun for me!

 The process of animation

My method always begins with sketching my characters, as well as sketching out the outline of my story. I turned the animation into Lemonade to convey the concept and timing. After that, I switch to Cinema 4D and model all my characters. This is also when I test different strategies and design frames.

When the animation created within Cinema 4D is done, I then switch to After Effects for finishing touches and compositing. For the light beam that is pink, like the one above, this is accomplished by using After Effects.

HTML0About the audio effects, and with Phill Brookes

This was the first time I had the sound designer Philip Brookes who truly performed a fantastic job! His work lifts the whole footage up to a higher stage and connects it all perfectly! This was an incredible project to complete and I'm excited to making more videos like it!

We've talked to Phil regarding the process of making sound effects to be employed in The X-Files project. Check out the interview conducted by Phil Brookes.

Artists will receive tips on how to change a career direction

I have some suggestions to anyone wanting to change directions:

  1. Choose the method that you prefer Then, spend the time learning about it! Designing is a procedure which makes you feel like you have to learn all there is. However, that's not the reality.
  2. Consider your eccentricity seriously and don't minimize the impact of it. Your uniqueness is distinctive. Your distinctive voice and your unique style are distinctive.
  3. Take your time and embrace your thoughts. Whatever it is that's happening in your mind take it on and create it!
