We sought out Titika what was the secret to creating her mysterious images in black and white.

"My name is Titika Rotkjaer. I'm an artist hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. After completing my communication studies from Roskilde University, Denmark, I moved to Norway to study visual art initially at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, later in Bergen which is where I completed my studies in visual art through the Bergen Academy of Art and Design and earned an MA in Textile Art. There is no formal training in photography. My knowledge about photography and editing comes through continuous self-education.

Do you want to know about my personal style? Could I talk about the way I express myself instead? I never think about style... In telling stories from an intimate and poetic perspective, in each image I focus on expression, mood, the atmosphere. Developing how my images appear is an ongoing process. It is my goal to always refine and clear the meaning. Sometimes , I edit old photos if I gain new knowledge which allows me to get closer to the image I wanted to create.

The key to making my mysterious photographs ...? In most of my images which I've made in the last four years - I have been looking at the complexity and the self, while focusing on connecting the inner and external worlds. Some of my photographs are not necessarily the same. comprise digitally from several photographs (all, of course were taken by me).

My approach usually begins with an intrigue or interest in exploring a topic or a complex of emotions. I photograph, take notes and read to gain more knowledge, and continue to shoot. The process of working with my images frequently will lead me to create an entirely new image from several others. I create my work in a way that is subjective, experimental and in a way that is intuitive to the theme to let my pictures take shape. I don't have a clear vision of the end result in my mind's eye and I then photograph the elements that construct it."
