More control over Community notifications to you as well as the members you serve

Jul 6, 2022

We've updated community notification settings to create a better member experience (and lesser emails). Here's what's new.

How do you notify members about what's happening in your community?

It is important to inform your users know about interesting conversations and engage them with more conversations But you have to allow them control over their experience and prevent notification overload. And we heard from our founders about how crucial it is to strike the right balance.

In the most recent update to the community feature that you and your users are more in control of notifications. It means more active discussion, no more overflowing inboxesand a social platform that connects both of you together.

Set your own notifications preferences as a creator member

Community members and creators are now able to choose the notifications they would like to receive on every topic: new posts or replies to your posts or new responses to your posts.

If you sign in to a community as a member Go to Settings Then click "Edit" in the Notifications. (Creators will find this option in the Notifications tab in your Account Settings.)

There are a variety of community topics you follow. You can simply check or uncheck boxes to control what types of messages you'd want to receive from each area.

In this case, for instance, you may want to receive notifications for posts, comments, and replies on a topic that's time sensitive such as Live Events and Announcements. In other areas such as Announcements, you might want to be only notified when someone makes an announcement - or turn off notifications for that topic entirely.

It is also possible to quickly switch the notifications off and on by clicking "Mute all" or "Unmute the entire".

In addition, you can alter your notifications per-topic conveniently from on the "All topics"page or on an specific topic page. Hit the bell icon and after which you can set your preferences for notifications.

Set default notifications for a topic

Creators are also able to set standard notification settings for each area of your community, giving you more control over the member experience.

Instead of sending notifications to your members for every article in each topic it is possible to choose the topics your members get notified about and the kinds of notifications they get.

Here's how:

From the Community tab of your dashboard, click on "All topics". Next, select the "..." next to the topic you'd like to edit and then select "Edit topic". From there, choose the settings for your notifications under "Default notification settings".

Users can alter these notification settings at any time in their user accounts. If they haven't modified their settings, then they'll default to the settings that were set by the author of every topic.
