"Let's begin by defining the adjectives that most accurately describe me: strong, expressive and layered."

How did you transition the concept of architecture into mixed-media images?

"When it came time to make a decision about my career, I was advised, like numerous others, to not go after a career in art. The advice was well-informed and I followed. Then I graduated with a Bachelor and Master's Degree in Architecture and being utterly dissatisfied with my work behind the computer. Then , during my gap year at university, I decided to create illustrations, paintings as well as products that had my design on them and I had never felt better!

The whole thing took off after I secured a position in an architectural office which I now juggle with my illustration business and ongoing studies in the field of art history. I'm hoping to get rid of the corporate architecture job in the near future and focus fully on the art I love and using mixed-media techniques.

I'm hoping that my experience will help those who are unsure of which subject to pursue to understand that the degree in art does not matter, you could be an artist from no background. The best aspect is that it will give your work a distinctive look. Of course, going to an art institute must be a fantastic experience as well!"

What would you say about your illustration style?

"I consider that the process of describing your style is a difficult task. I asked my acquaintances about this and what they said about it could not be more exact. They said my art looks like everything I paint is moving like the wind can be seen blowing over the artwork and dropping colors on everything it touches. It's impossible to find a better description of it honestly.

I like layering textures and playing with lots of colors, I am a maximalist in that sense. The harder I try to constrict a color palette more, the greater the color range gets.

In a glance at some of my subject options, some of my most favorite subjects to paint are landscapes with mountains and oceans as it reminds me of my hometown Tenerife which is a small, charming island that lies in the Atlantic ocean.

However, I also create human-like characters with exaggerated features and colorful skin. Also, of the course, I include any architectural aspect - "the six years of studying architecture will be visible in my work."

What are the most important factors for creating mixed-media artwork?

"I consider that the secret in my art is to not plan too much beforehand. It's fair to say that this method can work and it sometimes doesn't However, not being too much about the outcome really gives you the freedom to explore your art.

I love watching the process of coloring , making decisions and changing my minds on my final work. The work reveals my connection to the paper, my environment, and also to the paint. You will see my process of decision-making on the final piece.

I like being able to work with my hands to mix up my own paints. All you require to be able to recreate my artwork is a variety of various materials (doesn't have to be extravagant, however I enjoy mixing media) and a loose hand, and some courage to layer paint and start from scratch."
