Mixed media artist - The CreativeMindClass Blog
"Let's begin by defining the adjectives which most accurately describe me: powerful creative, expressive and multi-layered."

Claudia's personal background
"My name is Claudia Melchor, I am formalized in architecture, however, I have had a passion in painting and 2D media since I could recall."

How did you transition your architectural designs to mixed-media drawings?
"When the time came to decide on a career I was advised, like many others, not to pursue a career in arts. And I listened. Fast forward a Bachelor and Master's Degree in Architecture. I found myself completely dissatisfied with my work front of the computer. Then , during my gap year at university, I decided creating illustrations, artworks, and products with my design on them and I had never felt better!
All of it started right before I got a job in an architecture office, which I currently manage with my illustration career and my new studies of art and history. I'm hoping that I can quit the job in corporate architecture soon enough and concentrate fully on what I enjoy doing and using mixed media techniques.

I hope my story helps people who are undecided about what to study to realize that the art degree is not important, you could be an artist from every background. And the most important thing is, this will create a unique art. Of course, going to an art school will be an amazing learning experience too!"

What is your illustration style?
"I believe that describing your personal style is something extremely difficult. I was forced to talk to my acquaintances about this and what they said about the style couldn't be more precise. The way they described my work is as if everything I paint appears in movement like the wind is blowing across the painting , and then dropping colors on everything it touches. It's impossible to find a better description of my work than that.
I love layering textures as well as mixing a wide range of colors, I am the ultimateist in this regard. The harder I try to restrict a color palette, the wider the color range gets.

If we look at some of my subject options, some of my most favorite subjects to paint are landscapes with mountains and the ocean, because it brings me back to my childhood home in Tenerife is a charming little island situated in the Atlantic ocean.
But I will also draw human-like figures that have exaggerated features as well as vibrant skin. Of course, I always include any architectural aspect - "the architectural studies that I completed over the course of six years will be visible in my work."

What's the secret for creating mixed-media artwork?
"I consider that the secret to making my art is not to plan excessively in advance. In reality, this approach can be successful however it is not always successful however, not worrying over the end result allows you to be free to experiment while painting.
I like seeing how I color and painting , and of changing my mind on my final work. The work reveals my connection to the paper, to my context, and to the paint. You can trace my decision-making process to the end result.

I enjoy being able get my hands dirty and mix up my own colors. All you require to be able to recreate my artwork is a variety of various materials (doesn't have to be expensive, but I enjoy mixing media) and a loose hand, and the courage to apply paint layers and begin with a blank canvas."
