A Brooklyn-based, owner of a small business called smaller than Carmen Ladipo, her passion for baking began from the very beginning. "I've always had a hankering for sweets from as early as I can remember," Carmen tells . "In the middle of school, I was in classes like Home Economics, where we were taught how to bake cookies. Once I realized that I was able to sustain my sweet cravings with out having a companion, I quit."

It was not until a couple of years after that Carmen started earning money by baking by launching a small batch of cookies on the internet as a side business. "I'd relocated from the city where I was born into New York City, and tried to recall how to be in touch with those with a mature mindset," Carmen says. "I was able to participate in the local climbing center and bring in cookies for those who were members and climbers. It was a great way of creating friendships." In the wake of having been "fervently attracted" frequently to promote cookies, Carmen used the extra time she had between jobs to establish her own company for food in Brooklyn.

"It began in order to make an income from baking cookies that I could send out to friends from the vicinity at times," Carmen jokes. "But over the last few years Carmen's Cookies has grown into an online site which lets me ship cookies across the United States to clients who've never been in contact with."

We spoke with Carmen about the ways in which she prioritizes the environmental and social impacts of her business and the ways she manages her one-woman enterprise while juggling other duties and responsibilities in addition to the tools that allows Carmen's Cookies to function efficiently.

Social impact

Customers who visit Carmen's Cookie website and social media outlets are welcomed by the welcoming and friendly nature of the company, with the motto "Providing satisfaction to all who connect." The range of Carmen's Cookies includes the latest flavor of the season such as the matcha lemon. They also offer classic flavors such as chocolate chips that are made from chocolate and brown butter, as well as orange clove. Just glance over the reviews of her chocolate confections to see the joy her confections have brought people around the globe.

Since the beginning the company, Carmen's Cookies was more than selling cookies. "I consider that food entrepreneurs have a duty to both the natural environment as well as the community in general to take into consideration their impact upon their community," Carmen says.

"There are many resources involved in the production and selling food items which need attention and careful consideration so that they can minimize their environmental impact. That's why I'm always aware of where I get my ingredients from, and the way their makers evaluate their personal environmental and social impacts." Carmen is extremely transparent on her website about where she sources her ingredients. It even offers an option that allows you to trace the origin of the chocolate she bakes with direct from.

Her passion for this cause doesn't end at this stage. "It's crucial for me to find methods to help in to ensure that food justice is ensured throughout Brooklyn. Brooklyn neighbourhood," Carmen says.

"Every every year, I select an organization which is involved with the community for purposes of encouraging sustainable economic growth and sustainability as well as the production of sustainable food. I contribute a small portion of annual proceeds to the organizations I select due to the fact that Carmen's Cookies is believed to be a beneficial force in the communities it is based within." "As to"the Carmen's Cookies community," Carmen adds, "it's amazing watching the customers come together in supporting different causes over the course of time. We were able to raise contributions in the hundreds of dollars that we've given to many local and national organizations in support of marginalized and food justice causes. Using cookies. This was an unforgettable experience."
