Cult Classic tells the story of Lola who's a reporter in New York who, though she's just engaged, is feeling an unease in her relationship. In the course of an evening, she meets one of her ex-boyfriends, after which another. Lola discovers the existence of a cult led by her former boss deliberately putting these ex-lovers on her way as part of research. The story that follows is an entertaining and thought-provoking tale about reliving the past, and perhaps just making peace with the history of the past.
Sloane is unable to pinpoint an exact "aha" moment for this novel's concept. But her personal experience with wellness and contemporary dating were incorporated into the story. "I am convinced that every person who reads this novel is the ultimate wellness and dating expert in today's world," she says. "We're constantly absorbed with these topics, that they are satirical in the novels."
The actress did some specific studying on cults in order to get those particular details precisely perfect. "I wanted manifestos, or instructions guides from inside the cult, and I could draw inspiration from the language to use for comedy purposes," Sloane says.
