Can AI allow creativity to flourish? Film makers' perspectives and Vice President of Creative

Sep 16, 2023

It's hard to argue with the fact that AI won't be going anywhere.

While there is a legitimate debate over whether AI could become editors, writers and even concept art directors, people are accepting that AI is inevitable and they are now contemplating the potential to alter the ways work is done. At Cannes I was able to listen to various viewpoints of creatives such as will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas fame discuss how AI will transform our world in the coming 10 years. A lot of discussion focused on how AI is rapidly opening the doors of to people, and the ways that they affect the process of creativity.

Being an artistic director for more than twenty years, I had been looking for a way to share my ideas and see this as an opportunity to initiate conversations with my communities.

What's the present situation? What's the next move from here?

This is the way AI can do currently.

"I used to be magician before starting making films. Very quickly, when you're a magician, realize that any modern technology can be applied to measure it to the technique of. This could be frightening in the event that you do not know exactly how it's working. That's how I'm thinking about AI for creatives or any other businessperson that earns money by the idea of placing it in your head or onto paper or onto the screen, AI could be an incredibly scary aspect as it can be able to take over your work." Ben Proudfoot, Oscar-winning short Doc directory. Named Breakwater Studios' CEO. Breakwater Studios

Humans are naturally creative. It is a ability that artificial intelligence cannot replicate.
Midjourney started operations in the month of July in 2022. ChatGPT came in close proximity to the month following, that same year. Since then the launch, we've seen self-identified "non-creatives" discover the power of their creative abilities, a talent that has been largely inaccessible because due to the absence of expertise.

These creations may be stunning and technology has advanced in such rapid speed that you'd fooled into thinking that the tools are just 1 year older.

AI can help you communicate ideas

Complex concepts for the film industry, movies or even music are limited by the methods and capabilities required for bringing these ideas into being.

Since the past year, such images are achievable to make with a few simple keystrokes:

The Midjourney 5.2 is the new standard in AI images.

In just 48 hours, there have already been those who have pushed the limits.

We know up so far:

If you're a well-known maker, like award-winning filmmaker Hashem Al-Ghaili the chance will be higher.

Think about his mostly artificially-generated short film " Last Stand," which depicts how humankind would react in the event that extraterrestrials were to make contact.

"AI can help us see our world in ways that you've never thought of," says Crystal Edmonds the Director of Accounting and event activation for Magnet Media Films. "I think it will improve our thinking. The AI will help us learn about things we didn't know it was important to learn. It's likely that those who use AI will be able to unlock another degree of creativeness through AI."

In this case, Staff Pick winner Paul Trillo's short feature film "Thank You for Not Answering."

Instead of seeking authenticity, the designer concentrates on the dreamlike style that Runway has cultivated in its Gen-2. "As the person sends a message to someone who's old, he's overwhelmed by fragments of his fading memory, and conjuring up a scenario of what could be happening."

An artist of the highest caliber, he's adapting to the limitations and strengths of the medium, resulting into something distinctive.

AI aids you in verifying the legitimacy of your ideas and also help you to sell them.

While the above examples provide amazing examples of how AI is used to communicate an artistic view, AI for commercial use is currently an innovative technology.

Have a look at this artificially-generated beer commercial. It's a product of this moment and can be considered not to be legitimate advertising if viewed as an authentic advertisement.

However, it does give numerous details about executive better than any moodboard sketch, sketch or elevator pitch would ever be able to provide.

Thanks to generative AI, it is no longer necessary to rely on upon words to produce images suitable for more than 10 people. Instead, you can make use of a description prompt in order to generate an ideal animatics and sizzle films, or pre-visualizations that convince viewers to embrace a certain image.

What do these mean to the artists of today?

Begin to learn how to make a compelling need for AI.

"I believe the coming generation of workers will become more skilled with the tools in our arsenal, and will start to use the power of generative AI in visual and written media." Orlando Baeza, chief marketing officer and Chief Revenue Officer of Flock Freight. "I believe there will be a lot of job growth in this sector, but there will be an ongoing development of the abilities of current employees in order for the future generation to be able to follow suit and improve the skills."

AI could save production time

Making videos currently takes an average of two to three weeks to produce from beginning to end. But, AI is speeding the process, which allows the makers to think more imaginatively and allows production personnel more time to complete work that requires focused craftsmanship.

"I think it is one of the greatest problems in the industry of film is how expensive it is for a film. This is a very high-quality method of making a film as well as one of the most unique features of this technique is that it makes filmmaking more affordable to everyone," continues Baeza. "So now, since AI or machine learning are tools that can assist those who have limited funds, in achieving the masses market, isn't it something that's not a good thing?"

AI is making the process of making video simpler by automating processes like editing transcription, personalization and planning. As an example, adding or removing parts from videos with background was a difficult, lengthy process but it possible now thanks to the the Generative Fill tool.

"I think that organizations are likely to see AI as productivity and efficiency rises," says Baeza. "I am convinced that AI is a fantastic collaborator and is likely to contribute to the development of businesses."

This is the problem. AI cannot aid you in

AI will not help increase your fame.

Machine learning is based on crunching the data that is already utilized, after which it analyzes the patterns of the data that it had already been absorbing. It is for instance possible to use an algorithmic AI software can generate stunning pictures of blue-colored cup, based on the millions of photos it has gone through of blue-colored cups.

This isn't about re-creating something that has previously done. It's about the process of thinking about concepts with a new way and then applying a distinctive approach to an old concept and making connections that no one else has accomplished. As Steve Jobs famously said:

"Some people say that we should give the customers what they want but this is not the way I think of it. It's our responsibility to know what they're likely to need before we give the items they desire. I'm sure the quote from Henry Ford once said, "If I'd asked my customers what they wanted and they'd be telling me they wanted a speedier horse. People don't really have an idea of what they're looking for until you present the item to them. Our job is to explain things that would not even exist in newspapers." Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple

Creativity is an amalgamation of art and science and AI excels at the scientific component of the equation.

There are a number of simple and easy-to-copy best practices that we use within the industry and that AI may replicate in the future, for instance, the rule of thirds or using a powerful red font to promote the sale. Yet, as of now, AI isn't able to remain forward-looking. It can't identify virality, or come up with new and exciting solutions that consumers would want.

Creatives have good news. Create your own concepts, and then utilize AI to help bring the concepts to life.

AI can't duplicate the process of creative thinking.

One of the best aspects of the process of making is the fact that- no matter how specific your plan is your idea develops a personality that is its own when it is developed. Everyone who comes into contact with your concept adds their thoughts and suggestions to the concept The finished item will have an attractive aesthetic that you would never have thought of.

The editor in my film I co-worked with said once "You could have recorded your storyboard, but your storyboard doesn't mean any money right now, and I'm planning to use my film footage." Even if all was done in accordance with the storyboard editors might point out particulars or change the way they do things, which differs from the original strategy.

As of now, I'm not able to think of any way to allow AI to duplicate the creative process in this method.

AI doesn't possess a distinct viewpoint that it can bring into the workflow, like an individual filmmaker or videographer might. This means that regardless of whether AI is utilized to aid in the production process, like speeding up the process of creation or edit - humans are essential to the process of creation.

Be aware of the future, and keep an open mind

At the end of the day, AI is going to increase our capacity to communicate our thoughts, as well as trigger that will allow a whole fresh generation of creators to create things we've not thought of before. If I could explain the time in terms that describe the time, the word could describe an exuberant feeling as it's the first moment we've seen this for a long period of time We're experiencing the previously unexplored.

As a matter of fact, I'm just one man, with one opinion and a variety of views. It is important to continue exploring possibilities of solutions, with an open mind be open to new concepts, hold mind-set and engaged in discussions.

As of now I'm curious to find out what your current situation is. What's your approach to making use of AI at present? What are your thoughts on where it'll lead our industry?
