We inquired with Titika about her secret for creating her mysterious black and white photographs
"My Name is Titika Rotkjaer; I am an artist hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. Following my studies in communication in Roskilde University, Denmark, I moved to Norway to further my studies in visual art beginning at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, later in Bergen, where I finished my studies in visual art through the Bergen Academy of Art and Design with a MA in textile Art. I have no formal education in photography. My knowledge about photography and editing comes from continuous self-education.
Are you interested in learning more about my style? Do I want to talk about expression instead? I never think about style... In telling stories from an intimate and poetic perspective Each image is a result of my concentrate on expression, mood, the ambience. Developing how my images appear is a process. My goal is always to improve and improve the clarity of the image. Sometimes , I edit old photos when I learn something new which allows me to get closer to what I had in mind.
My secret ingredient to create my mysterious photographies ...? For the majority of my photos - made over the last four years, I've been looking at the complexity and the self, while focusing on the connection between both the outer and inner worlds. A lot of my photos however, not all are constructed digitally of several pictures (all are, naturally, shot by myself).
My approach usually begins by expressing an interest or interest in exploring a topic or an array of emotions. I photograph, take notes and read to gain additional knowledge. Then I shoot again. Making use of the photos often will lead me to create an entirely new image from many others. I work experimentally, subjectively, and intuitively with the theme to let my images develop. It's difficult to have a clear vision of the end result in my mind's eye and then shoot the elements to build the picture."
