Be Proud of History and Celebrate Progress: International Women's Day 2024

Mar 18, 2024

The 8th day of March everyone gathers to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD). This day is a time to celebrate the remarkable achievements made by women, reflect on their challenges, and commit ourselves to ensure equality for all women. Looking back, it wasn't an event that happened quickly. It's a culmination of many years of struggle, determination and unrelenting commitment. We celebrate this day by encouraging you to as and when we embark on short journey through the long and rich history of IWD and a demonstration that collective action is a powerful and collective action.

From Seeds of Change to a Global Movement

The seeds for IWD were planted towards the start of the 20th century, a time when the fight for women's rights was gaining momentum. On the 8th of March the year 1857, women protested in the streets of protest against poor working conditions, and inadequate safeguards for women working in the profession of making clothes. This strike called for the reduction of working hours and fair wages for living. In 1908, on March 8, the women's march who worked in the needle trades was held in protest of child labor, working conditions in sweatshops in addition to requesting women's vote. In the year following, 1910, March 8th became annually observed in the year of International Women's Day.

The Catalyst to Change

In the 20th century, IWD became a significant driver of change. It provided a platform that women could use to voice their voices on issues like voting rights and fair conditions of work paying and having the right be educated. In 1975 1975, the United Nations officially recognized IWD and affirmed its significance globally.

A Day of Celebration and Action

Presently, IWD is celebrated in various ways, ranging from inspirational marches through intimate celebrations. It's a time to celebrate remarkable women across all fields that span from musicians and scientists to activists, and entrepreneurs. But, IWD isn't just about honoring, it's also a chance to get involved. It demonstrates that the fight for equality between genders remains in the process of being resolved. It is imperative to continue to ensure equal opportunity to challenge stereotypes that are harmful and empower women and girls everywhere. The theme of International Women's Day 2024 is " Invest in Women to accelerate progress" using the widely popular hashtag #InvestInWomen..

Based on the UN Five aspects are key to pushing ahead the hashtag to the point of becoming old-fashioned:

  • Investing in women, an issue of the human right:Time is running out. Equal gender representation is the most pressing human rights concern, and it affects every person.
  • Eliminating the cycle of poverty In the wake of the COVID crisis and conflicts over the last 75 million people were forced into extreme poverty as of 2001. It is imperative to take immediate action to prevent the more than 342 million females and children living in poverty until 2030.
  • Management of finances that is gender-sensitive: Conflicts and rising prices could force 75% of the nations to cut public spending through 2025. It will adversely affect women, as will the services that are most crucial to them.
  • The transition to a sustainable economy and a care society:The present economic system significantly affects women. Advocates propose a shift to an eco-friendly economy and the care society, which will raise the voices of women.
  • The support of feminist changemakers: Despite leading efforts, feminist organizations receive only 0.13 percent of the government aid for development.

Beyond the Day

Even though IWD is an important occasion for females, their fight for gender equality should not be limited to one day. As a business that was founded on inclusion and empowerment, we strive to create an environment where women are able to thrive throughout the whole year. If it's creating a climate that values respect, advancing professional development or working with organizations that promote women's rights, we're dedicated to be a part of the solution.

Let's all celebrate the stories of the past, be grateful for the accomplishments made, and work to create a world in which everyone has the opportunity to reach the fullest potential she is capable of. Be sure to choose at least one of these occasions to be a part of this year's festivities:
