Artist Vlog - Riso Chan
Riso Chan speaks about acceptance of her sensitive, real self in her work of art:
My work is extremely emotionally charged. I work on pictures that depict the emotions that I'm experiencing. Through my entire life, I've always been an extremely sensitive individual. As a child, I had a feeling that felt a bit uncomfortable , and I was able to avoid it. (...) As you grow to maturity, you discover that everyone is in good shape and feels differently. I decided to channel the emotional energy that I carry throughout my day and start creating art. I draw on it to stimulate my creative juices and spark new thoughts. It's incredible that something I've tried to eliminate throughout the day, I finally put it down on paper, which gave me an immense relief. It's finally getting to an opportunity to utilize this feeling, where I am able to use my emotions joys, pains and hurts, and put these down. It was truly amazing and led me to a space where I felt a sense of gratitude. It began to resonate with lots of others too. I was opening to putting thoughts on papers that I'd thought of before. Instead of striving to be the same as other artists who have were already "made it" I listened to what I wanted to express and who I am as a person. I accepted something I was not happy about in me, and discovered that it was actually my greatest potential. I'm very happy that I am the most sensitive of me.
