Riso Chan discusses accepting her sensitive true self in art:

My work is emotionally intense. My work is inspired by photographs that depict the emotions that I feel. I was always a very sensitive individual. As a youngster, I've felt a sensation which was uncomfortable for me but I was unable to get over it. (...) As you get older and become more aware, you realize that everything is fine and everybody has a different feeling. I chose to channel my emotional energy that I have carried into my daily day life to begin painting. It is a way to increase my creativity and spark new thoughts. This is quite amazing as the thing I had been trying to push down for all of my life a sudden I was able to put it on sheet of paper, and I felt as if I was experiencing a sense of relief. I am finally able to make use of this experience which is why I am able to utilize these feelings, emotions and hurts, and then record them. It was an incredibly positive experience and led me to a state that was filled with gratitude. The feeling began to resonate with many others as well. It was an experience that I began to put thoughts on the paper I did have the courage to think about prior to. Instead of trying to look similar to other artists who had "made them" I was able to listen to my own ideas about what I would like to express and what I value as an individual. I accepted something I did not love about me , but then I realized that this was my real power. I'm very happy to be who I am, my true persona, sensitive self.
