An illustrator for books, Soosh, talks about her fairytale art.

Aug 6, 2022

While I was looking up Soosh in order to start this piece properly, I stumbled upon her video clips. If you've ever seen her work, you'll notice that it's like a magical fairytale was reborn. With her voice as a part of stories, she makes an all-encompassing experience bringing her fairytale characters to life. Read on, but be sure that you visit her YouTube channel with a cup of hot tea, and get ready for a magical fairytale evening.

We asked Soosh what she believes is the most important thing to capturing the little daily moments in her artwork

"Hello, I'm Soosh. I was raised and born by the people. I do not identify myself with any nation, race, religion, or anything else. I am spending my life watching people and myself as I delve into the details of everything. It's a tricky path, I didn't choose it intentionally however, I'm doing it. If it's conventional art education I don't have any.

Though I'm aware there are different ways of drawing and painting that can be described as styles, I've never really given an ounce of thought about what kind that my drawing fit into. If I were to come up with a word to define it, it would be a "fairytale realist" kind of style. But speaking frankly, no style.

My opinion is that the most important thing to success, according to me is to look with your heart as much as you do with your eyes. It might take some repetition to pay attention to the smallest of aspects, as with every other skill. The trick is to remain quiet for some time and completely present in your present. Take note of what you are doing. Pay attention, but not too much.

My focus has always been people. The way they express themselves, their mimics of their actions, their gestures acts of kindness, and the flaws they exhibit - all it is so fascinating and interesting for me. After that, it's the matter of some pencils, and a few watercolours to get into and create these everyday pictures in a paper."
